Week 9: Location drawing in the Hive

For this weeks task, we had to draw differ people, architectural features and  objects in the Hive (Worcester library). Instead of using an ordinary sketchbook, we made maze-books, which is a single sheet of a1 paper but cut up and folded to work like a maze, so when you turn the paper, you end getting lost with what page you are on. Unfortunately I od not have any images to show you of this piece, but I did get many drawings of the books, people, architectural feature such as sculptures, lights, wall patterns, chairs, and the surrounding area.

Week 8: Location drawing river walk

For this week  we were tasked with drawing different locations within Worcester by the river Severn. We weren't to make ordinary drawings though, instead we were to draw what was in front of us but adding  in things that are not there but are view to the right. For example, my second drawing is of some ruins just outside of Worcester cathedral, however, the block of flats in the background are added in and are not visible to the eye if I looked straight forward, but are in view if I look to the left. Making sense now? Good. The top drawing is of the train bridge which goes over the river Severn, however, I have added in a woman who had actually walked past me at the time. Below that drawing is one showing two vans parked up by an old crane. The vans are in the right place, but the crane was actually on an island to the right of me. Same for the man the image too, as he was no where near the vans and was actually closer to me. The final drawing is of the view looking towards the Malvern hills from a bridge which goes over the river Severn. However, there isn't actually a path directly in front of me, and neither is there as giant metal fence blocking hr path.

Week 5 Homework task

Unfortunately I could no attend this weeks class, but I still got the homework task done. We had to draw two different things using any technique we had learnt during this semester. I decided to draw the a sunset view from my bedroom window and a park nearby. Using charcoal all over the paper, I worked back into the two pieces using rubber to get a nice tone and to find the lightest areas. The task was fun since it was up to use with what we wanted to do, however, I feel the bottom drawing could be improved.

Week 3 Homework task

Week 3- Skeletons, Anatomy and the Gothic

Quite a dark title for a rather strange lesson. We were tasked with drawing Mel interacting with a Skelton model and to try out different techniques. One of these techniques involved us drawing with a candle (which was rather difficult as we couldn't see what we created) and then covering it in ink to reveal our drawings. It was so fun to do and I wish I created more of these drawings using the same technique, as they came out looking so creepy and disturbing looking, which is rather fitting for what we actually drawing.
Our homework task for this week was to draw different locations at dusk. I decided to draw the trees and lake at my local arboretum. It was a peaceful and fun task to do, even if it was freezing. I used charcoal for all the pieces and worked back into them using a rubber to create light areas.

Week 2: Life drawing 1

For this weeks class, we had to draw different parts of Mel using tiny view finders, in order to get a close up of all the details we may miss when we usually draw Mel. I decided to draw four close-ups of her hands holding different objects, her face in different techniques with some spotty and others with very fine or faint lines. The work I made today has been so fun and also very messy, and doing close up drawings is something I will definitely do again.

For the homework task this week, we had to draw four numerous faces. These different people included a friend, a celebrity, a stranger and an icon. I decided to draw a woman I found in a magazine, a good friend of mine, Bruce Dickinson (the lead singer of my favourite band: Iron Maiden), and Winston Churchill. This was a rather un task.

Week 1 Tableaux

For this weeks class, we learnt Tableaux, which means living pictures. Tableaux is basically used as a way for artists or actors to pose in a certain scene in either costumes or normal clothing. In our case, me and three of my classmates used Tableaux as a way of posing for other class mates as they drew us. Our pose consisted two of us stood up and the other two sat down, and this position had to held for 20 minutes with a 5 minute break in-between. I'm not sure how Mel (our life model) does it, but just a minute holding that position was painful enough.

So what went well: Really fun lesson and learnt the meaning of Tableaux

Even better if: If we could of done more than just one pose
